On December 20th 2021, as a part of “Research on the biology of ageing and age-related diseases” project, funded through EU’s Operational program competitiveness and cohesion, 2 workshops were held on on Mediterranean institute for life sciences. These workshops aimed at employees of MedILs and were organized in cooperation with “Sunce” association from Split, whose members held the lectures. The objectives of workshops were raising awareness of energy efficiency as well as employee’s habits improvement.

During the first workshop employees of MedILS met the “green office” concept which is already in use in certain European Union member countries, and has demonstrated good results. Examples on how to decrease energy consumption and its unnecessary squander in buildings and offices with mere usage of available tools were demonstrated to participants. Furthermore, specific proposals for more sustainable water, illumination, and waste management, including efficient energy utilization of heating and cooling systems inbuilt in MedILS building were also presented. In addition, special attention should be paid during purchasing equipment for the Institute in a way that energy labeled devices which affects the reduction of CO2 emissions should be aquired.
